American beer part deux

I’ve finally found the good stuff. They’ve been hiding it away in California. The selection of beer in New York was to put it kindly, dire (see American beer part 1). LA has so much more to offer. Not only in the supermarkets but also the specialised liquor stores. Heaven.

Due to the blistering heat I opted for something from the cold fridge, instead of one of these tantilisingly warm bottles.

This can almost jumped out of the fridge at me and for only $2 I couldn’t say no. The brewery Angel City had their name on a few of the cans in the fridge however I chose the Social Ale as… will erm let’s just say I was feeling social. Described as a session ale punctuated with strong hop aromas of grapefruit and melon. The citrus definitely pops out and the result it’s thirst-quenchingly refreshing. Would highly reccomend. I’m just glad I bought a couple.

Second up was Ballast Point Brewing Companies Grunion Pale Ale. This brew came about from an employee only home brew competition and has has a much stronger, hoppier taste, which I loved but Heppy hated.  Not as refreshing as the Social IPA but a nice one to sip inside under the aircon.
